expressnet

Largest ATM Network

In 1983, BPI revolutionized Philippine banking practice when it introduced the first 24-hour ATM. The BPI ATMs were branded as Express Tellers. By 1987, BPI had the most number of ATMs in the country.

In February 1990, BPI and BPI Family Savings Bank (BFSB) conceptualized and gave birth to Expressnet.

Landbank of the Philippines (LBP) became a member in December 1991, and  Banco de Oro in 1995. BPI Direct was the addition in 2001.

In May 1997, EN connected with Megalink, another local ATM consortium, making Megalink's 1,300  ATMs accessible to EN cardholders.

In  February 2004, EN introduced cashless shopping through the Express Payment System (EPS). With EPS, EN cardholders can go shopping by just presenting their ATM cards to the cashier to pay for their purchases.  The cashier will then swipe their card at the POS terminal and their deposit account will be debited the amount of their purchase.

EN has over 15,000 accredited merchants nationwide where EN cardholders can pay through the EPS facility.

In  June 2006, EN linked up with Bancnet (BN). This functionally completes the convergence of the three ATM networks in the country -- Bancnet, Expressnet, and Megalink. Now, all EN cardholders can transact at any ATM nationwide.

As of February 2008, EN has the biggest ATM network with 3,113 ATMs nationwide: BPI, 1,457; Landbank, 779 ATMs; and BDO, 842.

EN has  9.6 million cardholders with BPI having a 33.4% share of the cardholder base.  Landbank has a 24.6% share, and BDO has 42%.
